Money Supermarket is one of the leading price comparison websites. The roots of the company were two mortgage market businesses founded by Simon Nixon in the late 1980s. Together with Duncan Cameron, Nixon formed Mortgage 2000 in 1989. In the late 1990s, Moneysupermarket took off, as many more people began to get Internet at home.
In 2000, the company branched out into travelsupermarket.com, and by 2002, Moneysupermarket was recognised as one of the fastest growing companies in the UK. Nixon was Entrepreneur of the Year at the National Business Awards in 2003, and when the business was floated on the stock exchange in 2007, it was valued at around £1 billion. Moneysavingexpert is now also a part of the company, having been purchased in 2012.
Money supermarket, which specialises in financial services, is the largest comparison website in the UK by revenue. Its sister site, Travel Supermarket, specialises in package holidays.
