Twins who live identical lives reveal awkward moment boyfriend got them mixed up
Identical twins Shanae and Renae Nel do everything together and have been living identical lives since last year.
They have the same hair, the same make-up, wear matching outfits and they’re even on the same colleague course.
The 19-year-olds, who live in Southampton, love pranking their pals by swapping their outfits to confuse them, but once their jokes backfired when Renae’s boyfriend mixed them up – and things got very, very awkward.
The women always have boyfriends at the same time, but they insist they don’t plan it and it’s always just a coincidence.
Renae said: “People always think we plan to get into a relationship at the same time, but it just weirdly happens.
“In a past relationship, my boyfriend went behind Shanae and touched her in the club as he didn’t realise it wasn’t me, he was mortified when she turned around.”
However she says that their boyfriends normally always manage to tell them apart.
She said: “When we do have boyfriends, they always know the difference, I guess because they know us more on a personal level.
“Shanae is really laid back and bossy at times whereas I am super organised and always in control of how to film our content for our TikTok channel as we have over 800k followers on there which is amazing.
“We have tried to prank previous boyfriends by pretending to be eachother on video calls but after about one minute they would realise it was the wrong twin.
“But it was still not impressive that it took them that long to catch on.”
The twins, who are studying English language at college and are both currently single, love being twins and are enjoying leading the same lives.
They say the only physical way to tell them apart is by spotting a mole on Shanae’s neck and Renae has one underneath her lip.
Renae said: “We both now adore being identical and we wouldn’t have it any other way, it is our trademark to be the same and we love it.”
Shanae added: “People get freaked out when they see us together because we even answer at the same time and have been told we have synchronised laughs.
There have been times when we have swapped jackets at college and attended each other’s class and our tutor didn’t have a clue.
“Strangers are always freaked out when they see us together and always ask the obvious question ‘are you two twins?’
“When we were in school we used to hate being twins and wanted to be individuals so we would wear different clothes and have our hair in different styles.
“But last year we decided to just embrace it and now we will never buy something to wear if the other one doesn’t agree.
“We do everything together, it is amazing having a twin as you always have a forever friend who can comfort you when you are down.
“However, we can also be one another’s worst enemy as we know everything about each other meaning we know exactly how to annoy each other.
“It is very rare that we argue and if we do, its always something stupid like I might borrow Renae’s makeup without asking and accidentally lose it.”
But they weren’t always happy living the same life, and when they were younger Renae wanted things to be different.
She said: “It was mainly me who wanted to be my own person when we were younger, Shanae has always loved being the same.
“Our mum Donna Boast, 38, also loves it as she used to dress us the same as children and we weren’t even allowed to wear different coloured socks.”
